Post Fast Day 3 - the Day of Reckoning: Well, it finally happened at 7:15 this morning. Right back to the old routine: wake up, pee, feed birds, drink water, then comes the bowel movement. I really was just expecting a small amount of matter to be in my colon, just more of that "mud." Well, I was very wrong. This BM changed like the different movements of an Opus. Not 'Mr. Holland's Opus' …. But Lisa's Rectal Opus.
The conductor took the stage & began with a light introduction. Bits of solid waste, about 4 inches, very slow to come out. This is all I thought there would be. Little did I know the conductor was just testing the orchestra. After a pause, the real movement began. Mud, mud & more mud. Still no strong smell, it was just equal to the scent of my plaque ropes. It was a vigorous movement, and here I thought the piece would surely end. But then came the crescendo: swift waves ran though my body like when a person has diarrhea. Two great movements like this, ending with the great, roaring rush of the toilet. Calm. But what is this? The conductor has gone mad with power! He suddenly demands violent waves after waves of severe diarrhea-like movements! No water, just that wavelike, nauseated feeling that makes me say "I think I'm dying!" These were no simple waves of diarrhea - they were accompanied by the violent shakes, cold sweats, muscle spasms muscles & mental shut down. There was also a rectal heave I have never felt before. As when the diaphragm & stomach 'heave' when vomiting, so did my rectum heave… over & over… And in here we have the smell. Between heaves, I reach for the matches. By the time I flushed again, I'm sure my entire descending & transverse colon were emptied. I am exhausted & just feel like crying. This whole episode lasted one hour. I think that I am finished & move to the office to begin typing this post, when wait… what is this? Late arrivals from the Ascending colon? Who invited them? More traumatizing heaves follow. This time it's not just solid 'mud', but actually has some water to it. And a stronger smell. Nice. Let's keep talking about it… And the ascending colon waste couldn't just be quick about it, oh, no… like any late arrival group, they rushed in one at a time to take their seat, thinking that they are quiet. So now I have several trips to the toilet, hoping each nerve-racking heave is the last. Even now I don't know if this traumatizing, prolonged, painful Opus is finished or not. It's crazy that I did a total of 31 days of detoxing & fasting with only a canker sore being the worst of my reactions, but the first BM had me begging for mercy! It's been 2 hours now, and the drama continues. I'll be late going to the farmers market & getting other things done now… but I am SO, SO thankful that this happened first thing in the morning, in my own apartment! I can't imagine being in the bathroom at the market for this long shaking & whining & groaning. So, the fast was a breeze compared to this first bowel movement. I was thinking of fasting this long once a year… not so much anymore. This trauma I do NOT want to repeat!!!

Post Fast Day 6 Please forgive, my peeps, for neglecting thee… Sorry for the no updates. Things have been well. I have had no problems with any food - on the way in or out !! I was able to get another ultra sound out of my GP, it's on April 5th. So I'll update again on that day to let all know if my water fast was able to shrink my fibroid at all. Right now I'm just working at getting my strength back up again. I'm eating enough to take my supplements again…that's always good. And I've once again found the enjoyment in eating… *sigh* food is good… !!!

The results...
Well... it's hard to say. Because my pre-fast ultrasound was 4 months before my fast & my post-fast ultrasound was a month after finishing, i have to go off of symptoms as well as signs.
IE: though the dimensions of my fibroid showed to be only slightly smaller after my fast, i am sure that my fibroid was much larger by the time i started my fast then the 4 month old ultrasound dimensions. I say this, because the all of my fibroid related pain had increased, there was increased intra-abdominal pressure & it felt larger on palpation. These increased signs & symptoms went away after my fast.
So, i believe that my fibroid had grown quite a bit in those 4 months & that the autolysis during fasting reduced it to the previously measured dimensions.

So what is next?
Well... Since i learned in the later phase on my fast that folks with adrenal fatigue & hypothyroidism are not supposed to fast, i will be keeping all future cleanses filled with juiced or pureed veggies.
Fibroids will continue to be a problem until i address the underplaying causes. So i will work on adrenal fatigue recovery & balancing my hormones. As for the fibroid, i will now go the costly route of using the enteric coated systemic enzyme Serrapeptase.
I will now have to wait until late fall for my next ultrasound. I'll update you then
