Quote:Epicatechin is removed from commercial cocoas because it tends to have a bitter taste.
Does this answer your question? It won't be in any cocoa you can buy, and most chocolate doesn't contain cocoa anyway.
Sorry, but I thought this article was kind of silly, telling you about an ingredient in raw cocoa that might be helpful, then informing you that it's removed from all the cocoa that's available to you. (The Kuna might be drinking unrefined cocoa, kind of like the Aztecs did, but no one on a Western diet would be able to stand the taste, even if they could get the raw cacao beans.)

I just thought I'd mention I tried using hydrogen peroxide on a rabbit hide once (I was trying to match colors), and it turned the most hideous shade of orange. The rabbit fur started out more of a dark brown, though, so I'd be real careful if your hair is dark brown.

HB, why don't you also post this article over on the yeast forum? There are several people over there with either diabetes or insulin resistance (same thing, in my book). They might find this information useful. Or they might argue with you. Who knows?

LOL! When I got up this morning, it was cool and overcast, with a light breeze, and my first thought was "Oh, BOY! They DID send me some air!" LOL!
But now it's hot again... Not quite 100, but very close. It was nice while it lasted.

The show you guys are talking about is "Natren's Health & Wellness Marketplace." It's Natasha's show, but the format is that she's a "guest" being interviewed by Laura Lewis (she's a nutritionist or something like that). The credits list Jeremy Cooley, Jami Clark (no name change on the credits yet, but the production company is JC2 - get it?), and also John Snitker on graphics and Mahroo Howell on makeup, both from KTC. I didn't recognize any other names, but there might have been some more people that went over there from KTC.
I haven't seen any shows with anyone other than Natasha on them, though. And apparently there aren't many with her on, because after the first couple of weeks of watching it, they're all re-runs. They were probably re-runs before, but they were new to me the first time I saw them. Now I just have it on as background noise in the morning, IN CASE there's a new show, but so far, no luck.

Crazy Canadians...
Well, if it's so cold up there, (I can't believe I'm going to say this...) WHY DON'T YOU SEND SOME OF IT DOWN HERE??
In the middle of winter, I'll be cussing out that nice cold Canadian air, but right now a little would be a good thing!

Yeah, weird... I finally got back in here and everybody was gone!
I'm taking a break from the heat (my computer's in the basement). It's 112 degrees right now and I'm NOT a happy camper. This is the 6th day of 100+ temps and it's supposed to stay this way for a few more. It's all I can do to keep my garden alive, the lilacs are dying and the weeds are already dead. I thought the Northern Plains were supposed to be cold. I feel like I'm living in Phoenix or something.

Hey, you guys wanna hear what the bone doc had to say at Rich's follow up appointment earlier this week?
This is kind of funny, actually. I went in with Rich to the exam/consult with the doc, and the nurse had us wait outside until the doc was ready to see Rich. The door was open, though, and the lights were off. He and a junior associate were looking over the x-rays from last July and comparing them to the ones Rich got about 15 minutes previously. There was a lot of muted conversation in there, and I couldn't hear a word of it! Drats! Finally, the doc poked his head out the door and told us to come in.
We went in, sat down, and waited. He did some more looking at the x-rays... then he turned around and said "Hi" and then "Rich, your joints seem no worse than last year. In fact, I'd say they look quite a bit better. To what do you attribute this?" Bless his heart, he was thunderstruck, but he kept his cool! LOL!
Now, remember I said last year this guy almost threw Rich out of his office when he said the words "fungus" and "mycotoxin" so this time Rich played it safe and just said "I eliminated corn, sugar, and all junk food from my diet." The doc said "hmmm...." Then Rich told him he knew that most doctors don't believe diet has anything to do with their health, but the doctor said that he, personally, did believe that, but that it was impossible to get people to actually quit eating junk to save their lives, so he'd finally given up. This guy's a couple of years past retirement (I think he's somewhere around 68 or 69 years old), but he likes doing what he does, so they let him keep working. This is why I was so astounded at his reaction last year, because he SHOULD have been around when fungus was more commonly accepted as a cause for illness.
I don't know if he was just backpedalling, or if he was telling the truth about not being able to convince people to give up their junk food, but at least he was gracious and polite the whole time (maybe because there was a LADY present! ) Said "lady" then flapped her jaws and said that it was very refreshing to meet an actual MD who would admit that what you eat affects your well being. He explained that what the majority of people want is a quick fix, and that even though he and a lot of other doctors know about food and nutrition, they've been "trained" by their patients to do surgery and prescribe drugs. I have mixed feelings about that statement, but whatever. I think it has everything to do with the big money in the pharma industry, but anyway, that's what he said.
Then he engaged us in some small talk (how's it going out there on your farm, how's the animals, etc.) to use up the rest of Rich's appointment time. His parting comment was "At this time, neither joint replacement surgery nor pain medications are indicated. Keep on doing what you're doing."
Yes, this is the same doctor who told Rich a year ago that if he didn't have his knees replaced last year, he'd be in a wheelchair by this time. Not only is Rich not in a wheelchair, but he also was walking upright, not bent over in pain, and he didn't have to use any of the crutches or canes they'd given him previously. What a coup!
I probably forgot a bunch of stuff, but that's the gist of what went on, anyway.

Technically, lead would be a natural ingredient. Mold would be a natural ingredient. Basically, anything that hasn't been molecularly tampered with, and that's only MY opinion - maybe they consider if they started with something natural and only changed one molecule, then it would still be natural? Anyway, "natural" can be anything on earth.
Here's a scary one for you, though. I was researching "all natural" dog foods (still looking for a corn-free dog food and not having much success), and I came across one that looked really good until they started listing the "probiotics" that were included (in a dry food?). One of the "beneficial" bacteria was listed as Aspergillus niger. I kid you not! Not only not a bacteria, but deadly to boot. And they're putting it in their dog and cat food on purpose! Of course, I wrote an e-mail to the "nutritional expert" at their company, and have received no reply...
